Okay. I'm pretty much all packed. I will undoubtedly discover that I have missed something in the rush. Oh well. I'm sure I have all the important things... like clothes. And money. And plane tickets.

[info]alorarose, Pano & co, Joel, and a bunch of others are already there... and have already texted me saying so. I almost feel like I'm missing out on the party, you guys!!

No matter. In 12 hours I will be standing in that painfully long pre-reg line after shuttling in to the Hyatt and dumping my stuff in the room. My plan sometime after that is to hit the Walk of Fame, hoping that most of the guests are there so I can get the autograph stuff over with pretty immediately and then just spend the rest of the weekend doing whatever!

I am going to be so tech-ed out at this con. Two cameras (semi-pro 10x zoom & pocket), a DS, and an MP3 player. It's unlikely I'll get full use out of everything, but if I don't bring it, I know I'll miss it and then you factor in any odd pockets of down time that I know must happen, even at DragonCon!

Right. Bed. Have to get up at like... 3am -_-;

And, because I'm sure you're all dying of curiosity, I did go for the pants and I saw about eleventy hundred other things at Target that I loved. Man, I hope I get this job so I can buy all new clothes. And shoes. Lots of shoes in awesome colors.

[info]giddygeek, we'll be out watching on the big screen, so I can't fangirl the DNC over IM with you tonight. Sadness!

Have done: laundry, various packing, not much else....

Coming back from errands, I picked up the mail... and found a letter notifying me of an overdraft charge. What. The. Frak. I have never had an overdraft on my account in the 10+ years I've had it and there's no way it's possible with me keeping such a high balance in it.

So I got back in my car and drove -- fuming -- to the bank. I get there and the useless teller who I went to to make my large deposit previously was there, looking as vacant as ever. I meet with one of their account managers who didn't understand that my issue is not with the hold on the large deposit (I mean, yes, obviously you have to wait for the check to clear), but that suddenly after this deposit my account, according to this letter, is showing a balance of -$3,000. WHAT. THE. HELL. So a $40 charge at the grocery earned me a $34 overdraft fee. It took her 15 minutes of poking at her computer to finally call over the bank manager.

Bank manager comes over, looks at it, and says clearly this is dumb and wrong and directs the first woman to refund me the overdraft charge. \o/

And it's in my account already. HUZZAH.

Srsly. If I had to explain it again, I would have had a nervous breakdown. I was trying really hard not to be that screaming, pissed off customer. Now that I look on my online account again, it does show the overdraft charge, but at no point does it show my balance in the negative! *keyboardsmash*

Apparently, my Psychology book has a sense of humor.

"They engage in interdisciplinary studies, such as psychohistory (the psychological analysis of historical characters), psycholinguistics (the study of language and thinking), and psychoceramics (the study of crackpots). 1

1 - Confession time: I wrote the last part of this sentence on April Fools' Day.

Aug. 27th, 2008 @ 12:50 pm Modern Lit & Psychology
So, I had my first class today. I think I'll like it. The way he's set up the class is a lot like my Narrative Lit class semester, only with a lot less reading. A LOT less reading. This includes the projects, which are all papers, and have creative writing options to them. If he uses the same sheet that Pam gave me for last Narrative Lit, I'll crack up. What is amusing is that the Sci Fi guy from the Writing class last semester is in this class.

Also, the guy's from the New York/Boston area. And one of the guys in the class is from Connecticut.

Small, small world.

The Psychology class is the only (and first ever) web class I'm signed up for this semester. It looks like there's a lot of reading. I get to read the first 200 pages of the book in the first month. But the tests and quizzes are all multiple choice and the homework seems pretty simple.

So, all in all, a good start to this semester.

when i was carefully contemplating leaving my safety net, back in ny, i really never thought i'd get to the place i'm at right now. it's pretty frustrating, in no small part because of the ways my situation can be tracked back to my impulsivity and, hmm, naivety? sobbing in your car is never romantic.

job one won't suit and job two chose someone else. i have a way to pass the days but no end game, no insurance, no pto.

but i have my camera and an opportunity and i'm taking a (the) shot.

Aug. 27th, 2008 @ 09:54 am Is it November yet?
I changed my layout to reflect the more autumnal feel of things around here. It's been gorgeously cool in the mornings, and there is nothing I like better than sipping hot coffee, feeling the morning air nip in through the windows. (Except maybe sipping iced coffee on a hot day...I just like coffee, okay?)

Now I just need [info]lordessrenegade to make pretty new fall icons and I will be all set.

A few random things to share:

From Popsugar:

Jessica Alba was sporting all the latest trends with her high-waisted jeans, plaid top and pigtail braids when she left her house yesterday in LA for coffee run.

WAIT. WHEN DID IT TURN 1993 AGAIN? [info]brooklinegirl, we are stylish again, YAY! Guys, I am so excited that plaid is back, I cannot even tell you. Comfy fashion ftw.

Ugh, why so broke and why so many cute clothes? I am so sick of wearing freaking maternity clothes and having nothing fit, I can tell you. WANT.

Everyone is (rightfully so!) talking about Hilary's speech, but here is Deval Patrick's speech from last night, if you missed it. Deval is good people. If he makes it to national politics, you could do worse than supporting him. His daughter is an out lesbian and he is a huge fighter for LGBT rights. (And was, long before she came out.)

Also, do you know what? It was [info]loveyouallwrong's birthday on Monday! And I missed it, because I fail! She is younger than it bears thinking about, but she is made of eleventy kids of awesome. Happy late birthday, hon!

And for the last random thing, I made these last night and they were really, really good. I still have a half a bag of Key limes left. I tell you, those suckers are no fun to juice.

New Twilight icon. Because I love Alice. And because I wanted to slap Bella. A lot.

Gah. I was actually productive today!! What that means, is I've finished the site commission I've been working on. The client seems happy with it and SPGM was a bitch and a half to shove into the layout properly, but once I did it, I think it looks pretty great. When he updates his site with the new layout, I'll be sure to link to it so you guys can have a look.

I met up with [info]iambliss for lunch, which was fun! She also gave me the finished piece for my River costume, which I can't wait to wear at DragonCon! I'll have to try it on with my costume to see if there any details I have to tweak. After that, I went to run some errands.

AHHH! DragonCon is so soon! -_-;; I am so not ready. Got two days to pack and finish up some matting of prints. Eep!

Threadless is having another sale! $12 shirts this time. And... I think I will spend a bit of my commission money (and Threadless credit).

+ No Peeking
+ Cooking With Friends
+ and a gift for someone else.

Think now I shall be off to find some dinner and maybe watch more Doctor Who.

listen up, please! esp you techie peeps!

[info]belladonnalin is an awesome person who has started a campaign to collect merely a handful (15-16) of mp3 players for the kids at the homeless shelter she's affiliated with.

here, she says it best:

And then it hit me. If I feel like this, imagine how my kids at the homeless shelter feel. A lot of them don't just pass through downtown - they're there all day every day, this shit is their LIVES. They leave, sometimes, to go to school or a friends' house, but these are street kids living in the middle of all of the stuff that I try to screen out. And, for the most part, they have nothing.

All of my kids love music - it's one of our most frequent conversation points since they've found out that my tastes are pretty musically eclectic. A few months ago, Saturday nights were the nights that I would bring in my laptop and grab some donated blank CDs and the kids would burn music off my laptop so that they had new stuff to listen to. But they don't have portable mp3 players and both the boombox and the DVD-player-as-CD-player are sources of CONSTANT arguments because of musical differences.

my retired mp3 player is retired because the hard drive doesn't spin anymore but i'm going to be donating some money, and i'm sad i'm not in a place where i can donate much. she's not looking for new, spiffy, expensive ipods, ok? she's looking for basic devices. i'm sure some of y'all have shuffles or older gen versions of something you could send to her or, barring that, a few bucks to throw in her direction.

music is a powerful, motivating, fulfilling force in my life. the chance to share that is impossible to pass up.
